Happy Thanksgiving!
I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving! I have good memories of Thanksgiving as a little girl. My Mom always fixed a big feast with all the usual goodies. Turkey, stuffing (homemade), gravy, mashed potatoes, squash, cranberry sauce and usually 3 different kinds of pie! I liked helping my Mom make the stuffing especially. She made alot so we spend alot of time ripping up bread! Anyhow, today I am spending it at home with Rich and the kids and Rich invited a bachelor friend up from Albany. So he will be joining us also! One of the turkeys in this picture I put up might be in our oven today! The picture is from the farm where we got the turkey.

Blooming rosebud
My little girl is growing up. We have noticed physical signs of development recently at the tender age of 9! Yes apparently this is normal. I myself was a late bloomer so find this a little disturbing to see my "little" girl turning into a young woman!
We have been having cold weather lately. A bit of snow flurries too. Thanksgiving is next week. Hard to believe! I have not starting shopping yet for Christmas.

Clarence Dart- Congressional Medal of Honor recipient
I just met a famous veteran in these parts on Veteran's day. He is Clarence Dart. His son used to be my math teacher in elementary school. I never realized how important he was until just recently. He was a member of the Tuskegee airmen. A black squadron who served in WW2. He is also a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor. If you click on his name above, there is an interview there where he tells his life story up to his involvement in WW2.

New England mini vacation
We also did a little caching there in Norfolk!
Here I am getting wet feet! We spent the night at the Day's Inn at Old Saybrook where Katherine Hepburn used to live. Not at the Day's Inn of course! We ate at a local fish place which was very good but crowded and noisy.
The next day we headed out toward Mystic and stopped to see the ocean and say some beautiful views!
I think I am going to make a slide show tonight to show everyone the pictures. If someone can give me some hints on how to get my photos where I want them on here instead of clustered at the top and then having to try to drag them into the proper position that would be great. I am getting very frustrated with this whole deal with the photos. Some of them won't drag where I want them to go... Seems they should go where the cursor is instead of to the top.

Happy Friday!
I am so glad it is Friday! I have the weekend off, but as all of you know, weekends off fly by so fast, you wonder if you even had one! I had a bad day at work yesterday, I was so tired and lethargic all day I was sick with it. I don't know if I didn't sleep well, I have a suspicion that I may have sleep apnea.
Have all of you noticed the fast decrease in the price of gas? Every day its is becoming quite fun to drive by the gas station and take note of how much further the price has dropped.
I took Sarah to the bookfair at her school last night. She got a book on Pokemon characters. I wished she had picked an actual reading book but....
The local DARE officer also called to invite Sarah to the annual Christmas party. They host it for low income families mostly. I guess we qualify this year to an extent. She will be getting boots. I hope they are at least somewhat "girly". Not much else going on in my little corner of the world. This cute tag is from Dimah. I will add the link to her journal later.

Dam beavers!
Beaver dam puts homes in danger |
GREENFIELD - About a dozen families in Greenfield may have to evacuate their homes because of a beaver dam blocking a culvert. The blockage caused a large pond to form, collecting hundreds of thousands of gallons of water spread over about 100 acres. Greenfield Town Supervisor Dick Rowland says they can't break the beaver dam because that would be disastrous. So crews have been working night and day this week to pump the water out. However, with rain in the forecast, they have to work even faster. They spent Wednesday poking holes in the dam to get the water moving. "We just looked at the weather forecast and we just looked at it and said Friday it's going to start to rain, Saturday it's going to rain. We were just staying ahead of it at this point," Rowland said. The culvert normally lets the water from Kayaderosseras Creek flow along Spier Falls Road. Yes this article was from a local TV station website. This area is not too far from my house and uphill! I hope the damn dam doesn't break! |
