A Diabetic Halloween treat!

I was puzzled about how I was going to handle the candy situation tonight with Sarah and went online to check carbs for candies. I went to a couple different sites and then remembered the American Diabetes Association website. I was thinking that I would not have luck and then I saw a picture of kids and costumes and after a little searching found a complete list of common Halloween treats! What a blessing in disguise! This list is so comprehensive and helpful to me. For those of you who aren't aware, my daughter Sarah is a Type 1 diabetic. Diagnosed Dec 27th, 2008. This is our first Halloween with diabetes... Mama is nervous! So anyhow, support your local American Diabetes chapter and right now Rite Aid stores/pharmacies are taking donations, so please be generous! Diabetes isn't just for old, fat people, little kids are diagnosed everyday at a rate of 10,000 a day actually! So anyhow enjoy tonight everyone!

Happy Halloween

I hope everyone has a great Halloween today. Blogger is being a pain again and putting my pictures where they want them to go! The farmhouse is down the road from Sarah's grandmothers and the trees outside are just beautiful. Taking the kids out tonight. Sarah picked a Ninja of all things and Travis is some scary skull thing, as usual. Ha! I don't know what Karl is going to be yet, we were teasing his saying we were going to get him a Barney, Rainbow Brite etc.. costume. Poor kid. We had our first snowfall the other day. Didn't get any accumulation to speak of really. Some places up in the hilltowns and mountains got up to 2 feet of snow!
Now after today, we get to look forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas. I hope everyone has a good day...

Wedding Wishes!

My sister, Brenda is getting married tomorrow to Bobby! If anyone would like to send greetings, her e-mail is BrendaD1964@hotmail.com, hehe she will probably kill me but oh well! I wish I could go but I really couldn't afford it.
Travis is doing very badly in school. He is far behind in English and will fail this quarter because he is refusing to do his homework! He had a book report due today and also a big portfolio due next Friday. I am having a meeting with his teacher on Tuesday and hopefully work some of this out.
Rich and I took Sarah and Karl to the haunted hayrides last night. I think it really stunk because we were stuck at the front of the wagon and couldn't see anything. We just heard people at the end screaming. The only real fright I got was when I looked ahead and saw a guy crouched by the trail and I kept expecting him to jump up on the side of the wagon. Next thing I know two hands come down on my shoulders and I hear a roar in my ear! I jumped a mile and shrieked! LOL! He had got on the wagon next to the driver and grabbed me from behind! We may go back up to the Great Escape to Fright fest again this weekend except when its darker so it will be spookier and more dressed up frighters.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Pay it forward challenge

Donna at Donna's spot
just send me a box filled with goodies from a challenge I won from her a few months ago. I got a book of her poetry, a cookbook, some nice beef sticks, a magnet and a CD and video of a comedianne. I was so surprised and thrilled with my present. I want to extend the challenge now. The rules are simple! The first 3 people to respond to this and leave me their e-mails so I can get their snail mail address will get a goodie package from me! The only catch is that they have to do it to to 3 or more of their readers!

My pretend baby

I saw this over at Sal's website and couldn't resist. Even though I am not really pregnant. I can pretend!

Hello

Hello everyone. We had a rainy day here in upstate NY. Have tomorrow off and it should be a nice day, so I hope to get out and get some fall photos. I should go up to Porter Corners to the top of the ridge and take some photos from there! I got a recipe yesterday at work for an apple tart. I haven't tried it yet but it sounds good. Here it is..

Apple Tart

2 pie crusts -premade is fine
1 block of cream cheese 8 oz
4 apples sliced thin
1/2 cup sugar
2 T flour
2 tsp cinnamon, butter
Place crust loosely in pie tins. Don't push down. Spread cream cheese in bottom of crust, half block in each. Mix sugar, flour and cinnamon with apples and place half of mixture in each pie crust. Dot with butter. Fold crust up over apple mixture. Let bake in 450 oven for 25 min. Put foil over tart for last 5 minutes to prevent burning. Let cool, enjoy!

Indian summer

We are having what is called Indian summer in this area. From what Wikipedia says it is a common expression everywhere. Needless to say, it has been wonderful weather and very warm. I have really been enjoying it, but it looks like it is coming to an end later this week. The fall colors have been wonderful and I am going to try and get out and get some photos this week before the leaves are all gone. This picture at the left just shows a bit of color, but up where I am the color is just wonderful. I might take my camera to work today and get some photos of the trees in the front area of the nursing home. All the trees there have a different color! Orange, red, pink, and yellow. Yes I said pink! We have to get out to the pumpkin patch this week and get some to put out on the porch. I need to get my Halloween decorations out too. I wish I had a covered porch so I could put more things out. Here is a picture of me and Rich too from the car show...

Background and playlist!

Yes, I'm gettin' pretty fancy with my background and playlists! LOL!
Went to JC Penney today and got some clothes for the kids and a Lynyrd Skynyrd T-shirt for myself. It says Gimme back my bullets. That is the first song on my playlist by the way! Travis got a hoodie, jeans and Metallica t-shirt, Karl a t-shirt and Sarah two pairs of velour pants, hoodie and t-shirts. I saved $15 with a coupon and also got 10% off for applying for a card. I was approved btw and have no intentions of using it! Having enough credit problems as it is.
Going to the The way we were Car show tomorrow. I am planning on taking lots of pics so get ready! Hope you like hotrods and muscle cars!

Relaxing day off!

Here I am relaxing on my day off... well maybe not that relaxed! I put a new picture up on my title spot. That is Sarah and Isabelle at the Great Escape a couple weeks ago. We plan on going again before Halloween except at night. I guess they have more "creepy" characters after dark. Just as we were leaving the last time, the guys with chainsaws were coming out as well as the Grim Reaper. Of course my batteries in the camera died at that time!
I was inspired by Ally at Life with Ally to make a strawberry type cake tonight. I cheated and used a box mix however. Mine will be a Funfetti cake with strawberry frosting and strawberries on top. Unfortunately I don't have batteries still to take a picture! I also went out and did 3 loads of wash and went to the grocery to get "boy food". These kids sure can plow thru the groceries! Any ideas on cheap and easy eats for kids let me know!

Funny, funny Cloris!

I don't know if anyone saw this last night. This was so bad, it was hilarious!

Monday, Monday

I'm finding it hard to get used to this new format. I did get a title picture up but it is enormous! I worked this past weekend and it was nice and relaxing. NO ONE telling me what to do or making my decisions for me. My own pace and time. I had barely any pain in my hips or feet either.

We have been having good luck on Freecycle lately. We did get a washer, but it won't spin like the old one.. grrrr. Not so lucky there. However we are due to pick up a nice mattress and also a computer desk and chair! I hope we get them and they are what we need. I still need a washer however!

I can't believe it is Oct 6th already. I think this month is going to fly by just like last month did. It will be Halloween soon. I am not sure if I told anyone that Sarah is going to be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz this year. We already have our Toto. I found a Dorothy dress at a yard sale for 50 cents! Now I just need red shoes! I am hoping the firehouse will let her bring "Toto" in for the costume parade if we go.

Work is going ok. We just had our annual Dept. of Health inspection and did very well. Two very minor deficiencies which already have been corrected. So this week or next we will be getting pizza or subs for lunch. Yeah! Free lunch!

Working Weekend

This lovely lady is Miss Esther. She is as far as we can tell, a Rotti/Dobie mix. Rich had found her about 7 years ago wandering the streets, starving and abandoned. She had puppies at some point also. Buzzy and Esther get along pretty good, but Buzzy likes to be the boss!

More on the big move

So apparently, AOL is going to show us how to transfer our old journal over to the new place? I wonder if I get to keep this title or have to make a new one?
Things with Rich are still good, we are still adjusting to a bigger household and setting up chores and rules for the kids. So far, my biggest problem is my son being rude and I'm afraid it will teach Karl to be rude to me also. They both play video games and computer non-stop unless they are in school. Karl will go outside and play occasionally, I wish Travis would.
Sarah has been invited to attend an after school instructional program to help her with her school work. She is lagging behind and I think this will help her alot!

This is not making me happy!

Now, I understand that AOL is going to eventually transfer over my old journal... I hope. I hate to have it get lost, but I guess in the meantime I will start trying to copy it all. What a pain in the butt!
Not much going on right now, I will write more later... Very busy all the time!
The picture is the kids at the Great Escape. Left to right, Travis, Karl, Sarah and Isabelle!
